Feb 23, 24, 25 and 26

Spent the last days in Campeche, Cancun and Playa del Carmen!

Campeche was really nice, pretty empty but nice! We visited a few things (but everything there was!) in the morning and spent the afternoon on the beach.

The next day, we took a 7-hour bus to Cancun and went out to a nice nightclub!

And on the last day, we went to Playa del Carem, did some snorkeling with turtles and cool fishes in the Carribean sea!!

Flew back to Mexico City, for my last 2 days in Latin America :-(

February 22

Spent the 22nd in Merida, walking around the center, going to markets (buying a really really cheap meal! And sombreros), eating ice-cream, visiting the palacio del gobierno, the museo de la ciudad... In the afternoon, the stayed in the swimming pool tasting different Mexican beers!

We then took a bus to reach Campeche.

February 19, 20 and 21

After a long journey (metro, taxi, plane, bus, bus number 2), I finally arrived in Tulum were I met my McGill friends!!

We stayed in a really nice hostel    (bungalows in a white sand/turquoise water beach) in Tulum!
The next day we visited the Tulum ruins, which were really nice! We spent the afternoon on the beach chilling!

Today, we went to Chichen Itza - really nice but not that impressive after all the other ruins I have seen so far!

We are now in Merida, for one day!

February 18

Went to Coyoacan to visit Frida Khalo and Diego Rivera's house.
The house is really really nice! I want the same one! And the aera is even nicer! Paved roads, houses painted in different colors, nice plazas with trees and flowers... Perfect! With Pernille and Laura, we decided that if we win the lottery, we would buy a house there! A cute orange one was for sale!

We also went to Ciudad Universitaria, the campus of the largest university in Latin America with 306,000 students!! There are something like 6 differed buses to bring the students to the different faculties etc! We took one, drive around the campus, and went back to the metro station! The ideal tour bus!

For our last night in Mexico City we went to a nice club with our friends!

February 17

Visited Teotihuacan with a group from the hostel! Really nice! (cf pictures)

February 16

Left Guadalajara really early to catch a bus heading to Mexico City (DF) - 8 hours drive.

Walked around Zocalo, had a late lunch and some delicious ice-cream! Walked a bit more in the city and came back to the hostel!

February 15

Chiiiillll day in Guadalajara!

Went to el Parque Agua Azul in the morning, stopping in an artisanal market on the way. Had a nap in the sun!

And in the afternoon, we went to La Plaza de los Mariachis to have coffee. I also met Julian's parents and visited a little bit more the city with them. Really nice!

Let's kick cancer's ass!

As some of you may know, I will be power walking the Moonwalk marathon on May 14 to raise awareness and funds to fight breast cancer.

Because my family is affected by breast cancer, too much, this is a really important cause for me. Help me kick cancer's ass by donating on my fundraising page!

Any contribution is appreciated! Every penny counts!

February 13 and 14

Went to Tonala, a big handcraft market in Guadalajara's suburbs. Really nice!
We spent the afternoon walking around in the city´s center, having coffee on the Plaza Guadalajara, enjoying the sun!
In the evening, we went to see Mexican wrestling (Lucha libre) at the Arena Coliseo! A lot of fun!
There is a big music festival at the moment, and yesterday was Cuban salsa! We stopped by and danced, or tried to, with strangers there! Fun too!

On Valentine´s day (it is such a popular event here!!!), we took a 2-hour bus to reach the city of Tequila! Again, we had a nice coffee in the plaza, under the sun, and then visited Jose Cuervo factory! Very very interesting: we learnt a lot!

February 12

Hola de Guadalajara!

We left the turtle camp at 8.30am, and took our usual hitchhiking pose! We had to wait quite a bit but it finally paid off!
We had to go to Tecoman, which is almost 2 hours away from the camp! We thought we would have to take at least 3 different cars, but we found the perfect match!
An ex- professional soccer player, now owner of a company selling accessories for dogs and fighting chickens (true story!), drove us off to Tecoman bus station!
2 girls in the trunk, with all the suitcases and the animals accessories, and 2 girls at the front!

From Tecoman, we took a bus to Guadalajara, and then a bus to our hostel. Really well located so everything is perfect!

Chill day at the camp...! My ear is really hurting so I slept most of the day!

We packed, and that´s it!

Tomorrow -> Guadalajara!

February 6 - February 10

We went to la playa El Faro again, visited la playa Maruata and the reallllyyyy nice beach of Motin del Oro. Amaizing landscapes! Wild horses, palm trees, beautiful waves.... :-)

Work was fun too - I saw turtles laying their eggs, and was the velador for one night (staying at the camp, and making sure nothing get stolen - money, toilet paper and sausages disappeared... true story!! ).

Tonight is one of the volunteer´s birthday so we are having a little party! Should be a lot of fun!

Also, change of plan -> I am leaving on Saturday morning (so one week earlier than the end of the camp) with almost all the volunteers because of the lack of trust in the people we work with..
As I said, money got stolen, cameras too, one tortuguero is a drug dealer who spent 10 years in prison in the states..so we are leaving earlier, and the plan is to visit Guadalajara and Mexico City instead!

February 3 - February 6

Friday was my first night of work. I stayed in the camp with the CRIAS, the baby turtles! My job was to sit in the dark, for many hours, checking every 10minutes is any crias had hatched. When they did, and there is about 60 crias per nest, I had to put them in a bick bucket.
The volunteer working after me had to release them in the ocean!

We do not work on week-ends, so we have Saturday and Sunday nights free.

On Saturday, we went to Faro, a really nice beach nearby, hitchhiking! A lot of fun! It took us an hour and 3 different rides! The beach was really nice!
We also made a bondfire and slept "a la belle etoile" in the beach close to ours. We made some hotdogs and had grilled marshmallows! A lot of fun!

No specific plan on Sunday, just chilling at the camp!

February 3

There is internet!

Arrived quite early in Tecoman, met another girl going to the turtle camp there, we took a bus to Colola and arrived at the turtle camp at about 10am.

The camp is really cool! We sleep in bunk bed (or rather planks of wood), there is a kitchen and a big "living room". The scenery is just amaizing! Soooo nice!
We are on a beach in the middle of nowhere! The closest small village, where I am right now using internet, is 15min walking but we hitchhike - must faster!

The group leaders, 2 German students, told us what was going to happen and it seems perfect! We only work at night with the turtles, so from 9pm to 2 or 3 am, we wake up whenever we want, have breakfast on the beach and have the afternoons free! We are going to try to work with the local communities to help in any ways, so we might have busy afternoons.
The waves on our beach are too strong so swimming there is not allowed but the beach in the following bay is better. We went there this morning, had a swim and climb (barefoot - outch) at the top of a "hill" over the ocean. The view from there was really nice!

So I think those 2 weeks are going to be niceeeeee!

February 2nd

Hola de Mexico!

After a pretty early flight to bogota, another flight to Mexico city, a taxi ride to the bus terminal and a bus ride, I arrived at Morelia. Night bus tonight! Thank god there is Internet in the terminal!

My night bus arrives at tecoman tomorrow morning, and from there I have to take a last bus to reach the turtle camp!
Got an email from the guy in charge, he does not seem to understand English really well and seemed quite disorganized! Hope everything is going to be fine! :-)

January 30, 31 and February 1

After a flight from Cusco to Puerto Maldonado, a bus and a boat ride, we finally arrived in our Eco-tourism lodge in the middle of the amazon jungle!

The rooms are "special": there are only 3 walls! And the view from the "4th" one is the jungle! Thank god we have a mosquito net! There are no doors also! Our room "door" is a curtain!

We walked in the jungle and saw many kinds of animals - macaws, monkeys and mosquitos! Even with the liters and liters of mosquito repellent and my long sleeves and pants, the mosquitos still bite me! They seem to looooooove me! An impossible love story!

We went on a boat ride in a lake nearby and saw caimans, birds, a small snake and otters. We also fished piranhas (catch and release) ! Well, I did not catch one; they seem to have a good technique to eat the meat and go, but my friends did! I kissed one! :-)

After the jungle, we flew back to Lima! The end of beautiful trip in Peru!

I fly to Mexico City tomorrow and from there I take a billion buses to reach the turtle camp in Colola (until the 18th of February). The camp consists of 2 huts on the beach in the middle of nowhere! So don't expect lot of news!

Later alligators!

January 29

Chill day in Cusco!

A bit of shopping in the handcraft market, a walk around the city and that´s it!

Rest well needed after the Inca Traik!
